FAQs
What is Nomorobo?
Like Robokiller, Nomorobo is a call-blocking app that aims to eliminate spam from your phone. Once a call rings your phone, Nomorobo will check the number against a global blocklist of known scammers. If the call blocker recognizes the incoming call as a scammer, you’ll only hear the phone ring once before the unwanted call is sent to voicemail.
Is Nomorobo a free service?
Nomorobo is only free for landline use — Nomorobo Basic costs $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year for each device, and Nomorobo Max costs $4.17 per month or $49.99 per year for each device. The robocall-blocking service also offers a Friends & Family Plan that covers up to four devices for $79.99 per year.
Robokiller offers all its users the same affordable price, and everyone gets to start off with a
free 7-day trial. For $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year, you can enjoy award-winning robocall protection and all of
Robokiller’s customizable features.
Does Nomorobo offer 24/7 protection?
Nomorobo needs to run in the background in order to refresh its global blocklist and continue blocking as many robocalls as possible. That means you have to keep Background App Refresh on at all times and make sure you open the Nomorobo app each time you restart your phone. Closing the app may prevent the service from updating its blocklist, which means users won’t be protected from newly identified spammers.
Robokiller, on the other hand, works around the clock to
protect you from robocalls and spam texts — whether the app is open or not. Thanks to high-tech methods like
audio fingerprinting and real-time screening, we stop spammers in their tracks all day and all night.
How does Nomorobo handle neighbor spoofing?
Unfortunately for Nomorobo users, the company doesn’t offer much when it comes to protection against neighbor spoofing: a tactic by which spammers make it seem like they’re calling from your
local area code. They warn customers to refrain from answering unknown calls from seemingly local numbers if they don’t recognize them, and they encourage users to report instances of neighbor spoofing so they can develop an effective solution to these spoof bots.
However, there already is a solution to neighbor spoofing and it’s readily available through Robokiller. Simply turn on
Neighbor Spoof Blocking to make it impossible for spammers and spoof bots to hide in the shadows.
What does the caller hear on Nomorobo?
When a Nomorobo user is called by a number that’s not in their contacts or outgoing calls, the caller will receive a message asking for their name and the purpose of the call. They will be instructed to press 1 to be connected, at which point the app screens the call against its global blocklist. If the call is identified as a robocall, Nomorobo hangs up and notifies the user that the call has been blocked.
Robokiller takes things a step further with the help of
Answer Bots. When unknown callers are identified as spammers, we trick them into thinking they’re having a live conversation with an actual person. In reality, our Answer Bots just string them along to waste their time, and they do so in hilarious fashion. You can even sit back and
listen to recordings of our bots frustrating the callers who used to frustrate you.
Will Nomorobo work on my phone?
Whether or not the Nomorobo app will work on your phone depends on your carrier and your subscription. Nomorobo Basic, which is available in the United States and Canada, works on iPhone (5s and up, running iOS 11.2 or later) regardless of your carrier. The basic Nomorobo app for Android also works with any carrier as long as your phone runs on Android 4.1 or later.
Nomorobo Max works with iPhones (SE first generation and up, running iOS 13.0 or later) and Androids (running Android 10+) on
T-Mobile,
Verizon, and
AT&T contracts. Nomorobo Max is only available to consumers in the United States.
Robokiller is available on iPhones (iOS 12+) and Android devices (version 6.0+) on any carrier in the United States and Canada.
Is Nomorobo safe to use?
As Nomorobo reviews reveal, the service is generally considered safe to use and can be effective in cutting down on unwanted robocalls. However, customers have to pay for Nomorobo Max in order to take advantage of most features, as the free trial and Basic versions offer only limited services.
What is the difference between Nomorobo and Robokiller?
Which is better: Nomorobo vs. Robokiller? Both offer essential spam-blocking features like SMS protection, block and allow lists, and real-time call screening, and both come with free trials that allow you to get to know the service before paying for it.
Whereas Nomorobo’s global database is in the millions, Robokiller’s 1.5 billion-number blocklist provides more thorough coverage against spam calls. Robokiller also offers audio fingerprinting, which helps protect users from call ID spoofing and
detects scam calls by voice, not just the numbers they call from.
